How We Ameliorate

With the pleasure of welcoming three new guests, our 389th meeting took place in Omotesando, led by our Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD), TM R. He infused the meeting with his own creative style, fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s hard to believe this was his first time as TMOD! The session kicked off with the “Good and New” segment, where a wide variety of stories were shared. Highlights included an amusing tipping war observed during a recent trip to the U.S., an electrifying live concert experience as a performer, and an exciting adventure in a local bar.

During the prepared speech session, TM K delivered another outstanding speech, offering insightful analysis on how Japanese athletes have ameliorated their performance in recent years. His speech was especially timely, given the ongoing Paris Olympics and Paralympics. Go Japan! Go TM K!

Eat That Beef Before You Die

Our new Table Topics Master, TM O, brought fresh energy to the Table Topics session, challenging everyone to deliver a two-minute impromptu speech. How would you respond to topics like, “What country would you recommend to visit?” or “If you could stay a certain age forever, what age would you choose?” Guest A wowed us all and took home the Best Table Topics Speaker award with an excellent speech on must-visit places in Japan. Looks like visiting Miyazaki is now on everyone’s bucket list. We have to eat Takachiho beef before we die.

The General Evaluation session was both spontaneous and structured, skillfully managed by TM Y for various feedback from role takers. TM M provided thoughtful and constructive feedback on TM K’s prepared speech, while TM S kept everyone on track by reporting on speech timings. TM S highlighted strong expressions for us to learn from, TM I diligently tracked filler words, and TM R proudly recognized those who incorporated the word of the day, “ameliorate,” into their speeches. The meeting concluded with warm remarks from our guests. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Afterward, we relaxed at a nearby café. It turns out many of our members are talented musicians—I can’t wait to hear them perform one day!
